  2. Hi Cathy

    thanks to you and Sophie for getting this fired up.

    Sophie and I are on 1am (yes, EARLY) tomorrow with Uniof Alberta via a webinar on RSD and a specific assessment in a Science 100 course.

    Will let you know how it goes. In future, we will put these events on the RSD website in advance. Probably need to record them too.

  3. RSD Elluminate session 9.30 Central Canadian Time (1am Adelaide time)
    Pretty cool event. We had Lyn (from Dalhousie) logged in from CHina, Pierra from Vancouver ISland University, Connie, Heather and bob from UoAlberta.
    We mainly worked on a new marking matrix for Connie's Science 101 course for 450 students. She loaded her ideas for the assessment matrix on Elluminate, and we were all able to have a sensible discussion around it. Connie was pretty happy to have a peer-reviewed draft marking matrix. Hopefully she will load it on the RSD wiki, so people can see/work on its development

  4. It certainly was an excellent forum for participating in a peer review process of an assessment grid based on the RSD framework. Cant wait for more of these in the future .... What I found most interesting was working through the notion of whether or not a level IV facet could be included for first year students, particularly in the inquiry domain. I could certainly see the potential in Connie's project. Does anyone have any ideas on this???

  5. Hi Sophie

    Have you heard of Susan Hazel's 'Dog Park' Assessment? First Year students have a lot of scope (Assessed up to level 4) to determine what about Dog Parks they will investigate, how, what literature, and the findings are both fully open, and will be of substantial interest to local councils.

    (Of course Eleanor and Mario's final first year assessment is open -ended (the cemetry one) and so assessed up to level 4.

    Are you thinking of ways to have a more open final assessment in First year Oral Health?

    (Can we link from this blog? Nice to link to these assessments)

    I see that Cathy has forsaken us for the Caddie!(CS: I've hired a Chevvy- but its about 1.2 L- heading to Yellowstone)

  7. Hi Sophie

    Connie will see an email saying that she can join the RSD wiki now. Hopefully she can put up the before and after shots of the matrix!

  8. Research skill, motivation and passion.

    In a workshop in the USA in June that Cathy, Connie and I ran, we presented 'affect realm' descriptors that connected to each RSD facet.
    RSD Facet Affect realm
    1. Embark ==> Curious
    2. Find/generate ==> Determined
    3. Evaluate ==> Critical
    4. Organise and manage ==> Organised
    5. Analyse and Synthesise=>Creative
    6. Communicate==> Persuasive

    The atmosphere was pretty fired up, with groups suggesting their own descriptors. What 6 one-word descriptors would you suggest? The above ones have changed since that workshop! This Blogg and maybe the wiki if needed may be a good place to debate the best 6 words. What words would you use?

  9. Long time between blogs! Lets get started on some serious RSD work. Looking forward to Connie's wiki contribution.
    So far, out of the above 6 words, my favourites are: curious and creative. Need to think about the others a little.
